The Different Types of Commercial Air Conditioning Systems
These days it’s rare to find a commercial space with no air conditioning. Practically all establishments from shops to restaurants, and even large office buildings, have one or two air conditioning systems in place. If you’re in search of an HVAC system to serve a commercial property, the first thing you must learn is the different types available.
There are so many brands and models on the market that it can be challenging to find the right heating and cooling solution for your commercial needs. However, even with all the different bells and whistles, most of them can be categorized into three main types: single-split systems, multi-split systems, and VRF systems.
Single-Split Air Conditioning Systems
For small commercial spaces like single room shops, cafés, or even small offices, single-split types are often the best option. Compact, affordable, and incredibly efficient, these types of air conditioners are perfect for providing all the cooling needs of small areas. Additionally, multiple single-split systems can also be used to serve much larger areas.
One advantage of having multiple single-split systems is containment. This means if one of the units malfunctions, the others continue to work unaffected.
Multi-Split Air Conditioning Systems
The idea for multi-split systems is almost similar to their single counterparts. One outdoor unit is often connected to multiple indoor units, allowing the system to effectively cool down medium sized properties. Multi-split systems are often considered by property owners who lack the space to handle single-split systems, or who want to keep their building’s aesthetic appeal.
This type of air conditioning often requires more complex ductwork and may take a while before being fully installed.
VRF Systems
Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) air conditioning systems are often used to provide all the heating and cooling needs of medium to large commercial properties. VRF types are capable of simultaneously heating one area while cooling another, without too much strain on the system.
